Bomb hits Egypt church at New Year's Mass, 21 dead

Mubarak: We will cut off the hands of terrorists and those plotting against Egypt's security; al-Qaida suspected.

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt — A powerful bomb exploded in front of a crowded Coptic Christian church a half hour into the New Year early Saturday, hitting worshipers emerging from a holiday Mass in the Egyptian city of Alexandria and killing at least 21 people in an attack that raised suspicions of an al-Qaida role.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak vowed to track down those behind the attack, saying "we will cut off the hands of terrorists and those plotting against Egypt's security."

First Comes Saturday then Comes Sunday

Yet another remarkable film by Pierre Rehov - My personal favorite among directors of counter-jihad documentaries. It contains in depth interviews with Brigitte Gabriel and Bat Yeor among others focusing mainly on the islamisation of Egypt and Libanon.

I planned to write a more extensive post about the reasons behind the media black-out on muslim persecution of christians, but decided to refrain, simply because I cannot explain it.
A lot of it has to do with socialist persecution of christians spilling over into western media because of soviet infiltration and dominance during the cold war, some has to do with the divisions within christianity and maybe even christianity as such. But over-all it simply does not make sense that the slaughter and humiliation of millions of christians remains hidden from the public in the christian countries of the west.
Something very sinister is at play, when the Church of Bethlehem can be shot up and desecrated in urine and excrement by terrorists without much attention from western media.

Austrian MP Ewald Stadler adresses Turkish Ambassador

Christian Retreat - Turkey

December 2010

Diba is a Christian who left Turkey 23 years ago after Muslims killed her brother. Today she returns , hoping she can live there in peace. What she finds is a smaller Christian community still living with fear and uncertainty?

"It was much better here before. We were with thousands. All churches were full. But now our people are gone", says Diba as she pores over her photos of a now disappearing culture. Her face expresses the immeasurable sadness of a vanishing people. Despite her return the future looks bleak for the remaining Assyrian Christians in Turkey. While Turkey claims to be a secular country intolerance still abounds. "What the issue is here, is that there is no real mentality of freedom of religion. There is just one religion here, Islam". says Ria Oomen-Ruijten, a representative of the European Union in Turkey, as she explains the frequent attacks on Christians in Turkey; one man was attacked by a fundamentalist with a knife in broad daylight on a street in Istanbul. It is this culture of intolerance that is driving the remaining Monks from Dor Gabriel, one of the oldest sanctuaries of the Turkish Christian community. Yet Diba is not about to give up. She sees a different future for Christians in Turkey and is willing to fight for it. "Our dream? We will fight for our land. We will stay on our land. That is what we will try".

Iraqi Christians - Iraq

December 2010

Christians have lived in Iraq for 2,000 years but this Christmas they're not celebrating. Under increasing attack from Islamic fundamentalists are they about to be driven from their ancestral homeland?

Meet Canon Andrew White, an Anglican priest who serves the largest congregation of Christians in Baghdad. His service this Christmas could be the last Christmas service to be held in the country which has some of the oldest Christian communities in the world. "I dont want to leave the country. But now this has happened, I fear for my daughters" says the mother of Uday a four-year-old boy killed by Islamic extremists, unfortunately it was not an isolated attack. In the last few months over 1,000 families have fled Baghdad after Islamic extremists burst into a church in October, murdering two priests and holding the entire congregation hostage. Now few Christians in Iraq will even attend religious ceremonies for fear of violence. "Even though it's Christmas, and we love this festival, what can we do? We are sad at the moment, so we won't celebrate". At the church where the violence occurred a few still come to worship, the walls behind them still stained with bloody hand prints. "They say to us, the Americans are your people, they're Christians. They say you brought them here. And they kill us for it". The American invasion has radicalised many Iraqis and Christians have become identified with the West and are an easy target.

UK DEEP FREEZE/THAW - N.IRELAND ON WATER RATIONS AFTER THOUSANDS LEFT WITHOUT WATER

As the UK enters the thawing period after our initial taste of the winter to come, pipes and boilers are failing due to the fact that they are not designed to be put under such harsh conditions as those seen so far this december.

If this is a glimpse of what lies in store for the uk in the months ahead, then we are going to be in serious trouble. Our infrastructure just isnt designed to cope with this. And its being reported that the cold will return on sunday.

Scotland is giving 160,000 litres of water to Northern Ireland to ease its drinking water crisis.

Large parts of Northern Ireland have been forced into water rationing as engineers battle to fix a huge number of leaks caused by a rise in temperatures.

Ten of thousands of families have been affected by the emergency, with First Minister Peter Robinson and the deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness due to chair a special meeting of the executive in Belfast on Thursday.

Northern Ireland Water, the company at the centre of the crisis, has been heavily criticised for its response, which left many homes without water since before Christmas.

A statement by Mr Robinson and Mr McGuinness said: "NI Water's response was clearly inadequate and we are now looking urgently at what further measures can be taken to alleviate the problems people are facing.

"All district councils have invoked their emergency response arrangements to make their leisure centres available to provide the public with showering facilities.

"They are also working with NI Water to identify suitable sites for water bowsers and water distribution. The majority of councils already have appropriate arrangements in place, with the remainder expected to do so by the end of business today.

"It is also important that we ensure that schools and business which are currently closed for the holidays are ready to open next week."

NIW said: "As a result of the high water demand being experienced, a number of our reservoirs are currently at low water levels and we are trying to rezone and recharge the water network."

There have been warnings that the water crisis could turn into a health emergency, as some households have gone without running water for more than eight days.

Dr Peter Maguire, a GP in Newry, said: "People with young families have not been able to flush toilets and wash themselves, never mind get access to drinking water.

"It's just not good enough. What's happening is really not acceptable."

Engineers in Scotland are also dealing with up to four times as many leaks as usual for this time of year.

:: Belfast residents can call 0800 707 6965 for information on where to get water and what other assistance the council can give.

Iran: U.S., UK Face Fate Worse than Hitler, Saddam

Jerusalem, Dec. 29 – The United States, United Kingdom and the Zionist regime are an “ominous triangle of terrorism and warmongering in the world,” Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi was quoted as saying by the Iranian Students News Agency.
“If the U.S. and Britain do not seek to revise their policies a fate worse than those of Hitler and Saddam will be waiting for them,” he said.
He also criticized recent anti-Iranian remarks by British and U.S. envoys.
Iranian lawmakers approved a bill to fully cut Tehran’s relations with the UK last week. This move follows a memo published on Dec. 9 by British envoy to Tehran Simon Gass that criticized the human rights situation in Iran.

The new German anti-Semitism

by Donald Snyder

BERLIN -- Muslim teenagers in Hanover attack an Israeli dance troupe, reportedly yelling “Juden raus” as they hurl stones.

German leftists march in Berlin with Muslims to protest the 2008–2009 Gaza military conflict. “Death to the Jews!” the marchers chant.

At a soccer game between teams from the St. Pauli section of Hamburg and the city of Chemnitz in eastern Germany, the Chemnitz fans shout “Sieg heil” and wave imitation Nazi flags.

This is happening in a country where Holocaust education has long been mandatory and where expressions of anti-Semitism and the dissemination of hatred are illegal. Holocaust denial is a crime in Germany.

Atty. Sheftel on Katzav: Judges' Sense of Justice Questionable

by Hillel Fendel
Maverick Israeli lawyer Yoram Sheftel says that justice was not served in the Katzav case and that the judges were unable to stand up to media pressure. “There is no evidence to back up the accusations,” Sheftel told Arutz 7.
Sheftel said that the case was decided long before the judges handed down, this morning, their conviction of former President Moshe Katzav on several counts of rape and sexual harassment. “And it’s not just me saying it,” Sheftel said, “but rather former Deputy Supreme Court President Mishael Heshin himself. He said, and I quote: ‘The media’s intervention in this case has clearly affected the judges’ ability to judge… Katzav has already essentially been convicted… to the extent that his lawyers will be able to ask for a retrial if he is convicted… The judges would have to be made of iron in order to withstand this pressure, and I know these judges; they are not made of iron.”
Sheftel said that “aside from the lawyers and judges, I know the material in this case better than anyone, and I can say that it has been run in a slipshod manner from beginning to end. First of all, why was it held behind closed doors? The judicial establishment found an excuse for this intolerable situation, namely, that the identity of the complainant had to be protected… even though this is not the norm in other countries.”

Aboriginal Rights of the Jewish People

For more than two millennia the Jewish People has kept demographic and cultural links to its ancestral homeland.
by Allen Z. Hertz

For over 60 years, there has been a bitter dispute over the unwillingness of most Muslims and Arabs to accept the legitimacy and permanence of Israel as "the” Jewish State, i.e. as the political expression of the self-determination of the Jewish People in a part of its ancestral homeland. Extending from the Mediterranean Sea to territory east of the Jordan River, the larger ancestral homeland of the Jewish People was for many centuries known to Jews as "the land of Israel," in Hebrew, Eretz Yisrael. To Christians, this same Eretz Yisrael was "the Holy Land" or "Palestine" imagined on pre-20th-century maps as regularly including lands to the east of the Jordan River.
Yasser Arafat and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have denied that the Jews are a “People,” within the context of the modern political and legal doctrines of aboriginal rights and the self-determination of Peoples. However, there is an enormous body of archaeological and other historical evidence demonstrating that the Jewish People, like the Greek People or the Han Chinese People, is among the oldest of the world's Peoples. In fact, the early modern European Peoples probably learned from the biblical example of the Jewish People what it means to be “a People in history.”

Chief Rabbis Call Israel to Fight 'Abortion Epidemic'

JERUSALEM, Israel - Israel's Chief Rabbis Yona Metzger and Shlomo Amar called on the Israeli public on Monday to fight the "abortion epidemic" in the country.
In a letter sent to all rabbis countrywide, the chief rabbis cited this week's Torah portion from Exodus that tells of the Hebrew midwives who refused Pharaoh's edict to kill all newborn males by casting them into the Nile.
Rabbis Metzger and Amar asked the nation's spiritual leaders to teach on the "biblical prohibition to kill fetuses in their mothers' wombs."
Three years ago, the Chief Rabbinate formed a committee to fight the estimated 50,000 abortions taking place in Israel each year. Jewish law prohibits abortions except in extreme circumstances when the mother is in danger of losing her life.
"The Chief Rabbinate of Israel is appalled by this horrifying data, indicating that this is a true epidemic costing the lives of dozens of Jewish souls every year," the chief rabbis wrote.

Noble CEO: Leviathan is largest gas find in our history

Natural gas field found to be twice the size of Tamar; Noble COO says discovery has "potential to position Israel as natural gas exporting nation."

The natural gas reserves in the Leviathan structure total 16 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, based on preliminary results of the production tests received in the past few days. This was same amount estimated from a recent 3D seismic survey. The quantity found is double the gas reserves at Tamar. The results were reported Wednesday by Noble Energy Inc., which owns 39.66% of the prospect.

According to Noble Energy, "The well encountered a minimum of 220 feet (67 meters) of net natural gas pay in several subsalt Miocene intervals. Apparent reservoir quality is very good, and the intervals discovered are geologically similar to those intersected at Tamar."

Nigeria: Muslim Massacres of Christians

Jos is the capital city of Plateau state. Nigeria. Jos lies in a spit of land that juts up between the states of Bauchi and Kaduna, which were among 12 states which have passed Sharia law since 1999. A century of tin mining has brought migrants to the region, and unlike other states in the north of Nigeria, Muslims are not a fixed majority.
There are several Christians in the region, and these have been the subject of Muslim violence and also have engaged in conflict with Muslims. In 2001, Muslim-Christian violence in Jos that commenced on September 7 led to the deaths of at least a thousand people. In 2008, in two days (November 28 and 29) 381 people were killed in further Muslim-Christian conflict in Jos. The latter incident was tied to electoral disputes. In two outbreaks of Muslim on Christian violence in January and March of 2010, hundreds more were killed.

"The US Will Be Transformed into an Islamic Republic"

From MEMRI: Egyptian Journalist 'Ata Abd Al-Aal: "The US Will Be Transformed into an Islamic Republic"

Following is an excerpt from an interview with Egyptian journalist 'Ata Abd Al-Aal, which aired on Al-Rahma/Al-Rawdha TV on December 12, 2010.
'Ata Abd Al-Aal: The rate of converts to Islam in the US is very high. This is of great alarm to the Zionist circles in the US, because this rate is rising on a daily basis. These converts adhere to Islam with total conviction. They become preachers themselves, and convince others to convert to Islam. You are more knowledgeable than me in this issue, and you know that many Americans convert to Islam every day.

Interviewer: To conclude this show, let me ask: Even though Islam has a strong presence and deep roots among the Islamic communities in the US and Europe, what is required of the da'wa institutions in our countries?
'Ata Abd Al-Aal: They should send religious guides, as the Americans call them, or preachers, who should put an end to the calls not to participate in the elections. Some of the sheiks who go to the US during the month of Ramadhan or on other religious occasions incite the Muslims living there not to take part in the elections, because they are living among infidels. This is very troubling, and runs counter to the rights of the Muslims in the US.
The Islamic institutions in the Islamic world should send preachers who are well versed in Islam, who know how to preach to the American mentality, and who are proficient in English and can communicate with the Americans. Over there, they must forsake their own material and personal interests, and must act for the sake of Allah.
[Ultimately,] the US will be transformed into an Islamic republic, as a sheik in the US told me. He said that the most important place for the future of Islam, after Mecca and Medina, was the US.

When Anti-Semitism Is Part Of The Vacation

Tuesday, December 28, 2010
Travel Writer
I was in Barcelona, dropping by a friend’s shared apartment, when it started up. “I’ve been so busy here, I haven’t even had time to go shopping!” I laughed, and was met with this teasing response from my friend’s housemate — a Bulgarian cellist I barely knew. “No shopping? Why, for you, that must be as unthinkable as not building settlements would be for an Israeli!”
Huh? What on earth did shopping have to do with Israel? It was a nasty comment, and weird to boot. I was still reeling from the unexpected dig at a nationality none of us had any obvious ties to when the cellist’s girlfriend, a Brazilian, mentioned that she hadn’t been shopping during her visit, either. “I’m very frugal lately — I’m like a Jew, I just hate to spend money,” she said.
Jewishness hadn’t come up in the conversation, nobody had a clue about my heritage, and the comments were uttered lightly, unprovocatively. But there it was. In Europe, I have found, ugly remarks about Israel and Jewish stereotypes surface as a matter of course, with the tacit assumption that everyone shares an anti-Israel viewpoint — and that nobody present is Jewish.
If it is unfashionable to say ethnically pointed things in historically multicultural America, it can sometimes seem the opposite abroad, at least with regard to Jews and Israel. And it can make traveling to otherwise lovely lands, filled with otherwise friendly people, very uncomfortable for American Jews.

SERIOUS AND RISING THREAT TO ISRAEL: UNILATERAL DECLARATION OF A PALESTINIAN STATE BY SUMMER 2011

A serious new threat to the peace and security of Israel and the people of the epicenter is rapidly emerging — the prospect that the Palestinian leadership will unilaterally declare their own independent, sovereign state as early as the summer of 2011, and attempt to divide Jerusalem, and that the world will try to force Israel to accept this new state rather than require the Palestinians to sit down and negotiate a fair and just arrangement that both sides can accept.
Make no mistake: a unilateral declaration by the Palestinians is not a recipe for peace. It is a recipe for war. Over 450,000 Israelis live in the West Bank. They are not going to quietly accept a Palestinian government in Ramallah deciding their fate. Nor will these Israeli settlers allow the Palestinian police to  forcibly remove them from their villages, towns and cities. Especially Jerusalem. They will fight back. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be under enormous domestic political pressure to back these Jewish citizens with the force of the Israeli military, and should violence intensify, he would likely order the IDF into battle. The results would not be pretty, and the Palestinian people would pay a heavy price.
World leaders, therefore, should be putting enormous pressure on Palestinian leaders to sit down to direct negotiations with the Israelis and find a peaceful solution through diplomacy, lest violence result. Sadly, that’s not what is happening. Instead, world leaders are putting enormous pressure  on Israeli leaders to cut a fast deal with the Palestinians or face the prospect of Palestinian state being imposed upon them.
Bible prophecy makes it clear that the nations of the world will, in the last days, divide up the land of Israel. But the Scriptures are also crystal clear that the nations will face the judgment of Almighty God for doing so. “For behold, in those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I will gather all the nations and bring them to the Valley of Jehoshaphat ["the Lord judges"]. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land.” (Joel 3:1-2).
In 2009, Palestinian President Salam Fayyad developed a detailed plan to have a Palestinian state ready within two years, and he has been building the political and economic infrastructure ever since. In April of 2010, during an exclusive interview with Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, Fayyad said that ”the birth of a Palestinian state will be celebrated as a day of joy by the entire community of nations….The time for this baby to be born will come, and we estimate it will come around 2011. That is our vision, and a reflection of our will to exercise our right to live in freedom and dignity in the country [where] we are born, alongside the State of Israel in complete harmony.”
By the fall of 2010, several governments — including Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay and Turkey — had announced immediate or imminent recognition of a Palestinian state that hadn’t even been declared yet. Other countries are hinting that they, too, are ready to support the “unilateral option” soon. Top officials in the European Union, for example, are pushing an initiative for the E.U. to formally recognize an independent Palestinian state by the summer of 2011.
Making matters worse, I believe it is increasingly possible that the Obama administration will also back such an initiative. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in November that she opposed a unilateral declaration by the Palestinians, noting, “We do not support unilateral steps by either party that could prejudge the outcome of such negotiations.” But given how aggressively the White House and State Department are pushing for a Palestinian state — and how poor relations between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu have been in 2009 and 2010 — U.S. support for the “unilateral option” is a real and serious threat.
Indeed, Members of Congress — both Democrats and Republicans — are so concerned that the Obama administration will support the “unilateral option” that on December 16th they voiced their opposition to such an approach. “The United States House of Representatives unanimously on Thursday approved a resolution opposing unilateral declaration of Palestinian state,” reported Haaretz. “The resolution introduced by Rep. Howard Berman, Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, slams Palestinian efforts to push the international community to recognize a state in such a manner as ‘true and lasting peace between Israel and the Palestinians can only be achieved through direct negotiations between the parties.’ The resolution calls on the U.S. administration to ‘deny recognition to any unilaterally declared Palestinian state and veto any resolution by the United Nations Security Council to establish or recognize a Palestinian state outside of an agreement negotiated by the two parties.’”
Such a unilateral move by the Palestinians, combined with widespread (and likely enthusiastic) international support would undermine six decades of attempts by the international community to reach a negotiated settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Indeed, a unilaterally declared Palestinian state would violate U.N. Security Council Resolution 242, which calls for ”a peaceful and accepted settlement.” How could the settlement be “accepted” if it wasn’t negotiated and agreed upon by both sides? A unilateral declaration would also violate Resolution 242′s call for ”secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force.” How could the borders between Israel and the Palestinians be “secure and recognized” if they are not recognized by the Israelis?
Moreover, Resolution 242 doesn’t call on Israel to withdraw from” all of the territories” it acquired in the Six Day War of June 1967, only for the “withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories” acquired in “the recent conflict.” In other words, based on a negotiated peace, Israel might withdraw from all of the territories, or only part of the territories. The key was for the Israelis and the Palestinians to have “secure” borders “free from threats or acts of force.”
Such a unilateral move by the Palestinians would also violate U.N. Security Council Resolution 338, which called for an immediate cease-fire after the 1973 Yom Kippur War and for “negotiations [to] start between the parties concerned under appropriate auspices aimed at establishing a just and durable peace in the Middle East.”
Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas and President Fayyad have been resisting true, reasonable, direct negotiations with Israel for months. They are simultaneously moving with confidence towards a unilateral declaration of their state and the division of Jerusalem. Why? Because they know they already have widespread international support. As noted above, French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Moratinos announced in February 2010 that their two governments were likely to formally recognize an independent Palestinian state in pre-1967 borders within 18 months, regardless of whether Israelis and Palestinians reach a negotiated agreement. Moreover, Kouchner and Moratinos began urging the European Union as whole to recognize a Palestinian state by the summer of 2011.
“The issue before us at the moment is the building of a reality,” said Kouchner. “France is training Palestinian police, businesses are being created in the West Bank… It follows that one can envision the proclamation soon of a Palestinian state, and its immediate recognition by the international community, even before negotiating its borders….If by mid-2011, the political process has not ended the [Israeli] occupation, I would bet that the developed state of Palestinian infrastructure and institutions will be such that the pressure will force Israel to give up its occupation.”
Let us continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, not the division of Jerusalem. Let us pray for the Lord to restrain the Palestinian leadership from making such a disastrous move, and pray that the Lord would restrain world leaders from encouraging the “unilateral option.” At the same time, we need to realize that eventually the land of Israel will be divided by the nations. The only true hope of peace and reconciliation is through the Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, changing the hearts of Israelis and their neighbors and enemies and drawing them to Himself. Let us be praying, earnestly, therefore, towards that end.

Baby born after Fire Fighter dies

Thousands of people accompanied firefighter Danny Hayat, 35, to his final resting place Sunday.

Please pray for the family...

Daughter Born to Deceased Carmel Firefighter Danny Hayat

by Gil Ronen

Danny Hayat was the 44th person to die as a result of burns suffered in the huge Carmel fire. On Tuesday, ten days after he succumbed to his injury, his widow Hofit gave birth to a healthy girl. The Afula hospital announced that mother and girl are both healthy.

Danny Hayat died while tried to save firefighting cadets whose bus was caught in the Carmel fire's flames. The cadets had been taking part in the evacuation of the Damon prison, which held terrorist prisoners. He was very badly wounded and taken to Rambam Hospital's Intensive Care Unit, where he died after two weeks.

His widow Hofit eulogized him at the funeral, which was attended by thousands: "Thank you for the little princess who is in my womb, for the great love I received from you, for the coffee you made for me in the morning. G-d was supposed to save you but he took you as tzaddikim [the righteous - ed.] are taken away. I promise you that I will be strong, just like you expected me to. You are my hero."

Prime Minister Netanyahu also spoke of Danny in the weekly cabinet meeting that followed.
"To our deep sorrow, firefighter Danny Hayat passed away last night after fighting for his life for two weeks," he said. "Danny courageously fought the fire in an heroic attempt to save the Prison Service bus. My wife and I visited him in hospital. We met his wife Hofit, who is due to give birth. We met his parents, Motti and Batsheva, and we discovered a strong, united and brave family. Despite all the prayers and the efforts, Danny passed away. Our hearts – the Government's and the nation's – are with the Hayat family."

Qld grain farmers devastated by floods

Queensland's floods have cost grain farmers an estimated $400 million and the bill will certainly rise, AgForce says.
The farmers' lobby group says the estimate is extremely conservative and far greater losses are feared.
"We're saying $400 million at the moment but that is very conservative and we won't know for a few weeks until the waters have receded," AgForce president Brent Finlay told AAP.

Batya's books have changed thousands of lives. Now she offers a brief overview that quickly explains Israel, the Church, the mystery of the fullness of the Gentiles, the blindness that has affected both houses of Israel, and our Father's master plan to unite their two sticks in the last days (Genesis 48:19; Isaiah 8:14; Ezekiel 37:19).
Great change is coming to Messiah's Body. Read this book and find out why so many Believers are getting so excited! Includes illustrations, maps, charts, and suggested review Bible studies. This book will help enrich your relationship with the Holy One of Israel and inspire Jewish and non-Jewish Believers (Judah and Ephraim) to become the promised one new man. Batya makes a complicated subject easy to understand.
Long ago, the Father divided Israel into two houses, Ephraim (Israel) and Judah. As His two witnesses, He sent them in different directions to serve two purposes, to establish His immutable truths of Law and Grace. Now, in these last days, He would have them come together and confirm His truth in the earth. That is the simple truth behind this book: Two houses - Two directions - Two different purposes. Now is the time for them to be reunited.
Read and be blessed!

The Spanish Ham Lawsuit and Other Muslim Problems Hitting Iberia

by Soeren Kern
December 23, 2010 at 5:00 am

A high school teacher in southern Spain is being sued for child abuse by the parents of a Muslim student who claims that the teacher "defamed Islam" by talking about Spanish ham in class. The case is one of a growing list of recent controversies that illustrate the increasing assertiveness of Muslims in Spain at a time when Spaniards are slowly waking up to the integration challenges posed by uncontrolled immigration from Muslim countries.
Although Spanish legal scholars are divided over whether the lawsuit has real merit, nearly everyone agrees that the case has potentially major implications for free speech in Spain. They also agree that the constant threat of lawsuits will force Spanish school teachers to carefully consider their choice of words in the future.
The latest dust-up occurred at the Instituto Menéndez Tolosa, a secondary school in the town of La Línea de la Concepción in the southern region of Andalusia, where José Reyes Fernández, a geography teacher, was giving a lecture about the different types of climates in Spain. During the class, Reyes mentioned that the climate in Andalusia offers the perfect temperature conditions for curing Spanish ham (Jamón Ibérico), a world-famous delicacy.

UK considers recognizing PA diplomats

London looking into possibility of upgrading Palestinian delegation to status of diplomatic mission. Israel fears move may lead to recognition of one-sided Palestinian statehood declaration
Yaniv Halily

LONDON – After several South American countries recognized an independent Palestinian state, Britain is now considering upgrading the Palestinian delegation in London to the status of a diplomatic mission.

The move, which would grant the Palestinian delegation with a status similar to that of an independent state, will turn the Palestinian delegates into diplomats for all intents and purposes.

J'lem Mayor: Beit Yehonatan won't be evacuated

Barkat says he’ll remove Jewish and Arab squatters "on the same day"; attorney-general to hold special discussion on Beit Yehonatan.

Rumors of looming evacuations swirling around east Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood will not be realized, after Mayor Nir Barkat and the right-wing Ateret Cohanim organization came to an agreement on Sunday evening that will keep the seven Jewish families of Beit Yehonatan and the Old Yemenite Synagogue’s Abu Naeb family in their homes for the time being.

Barkat’s decision to postpone the evacuation of Beit Yehonatan prompted Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein to announce that he will hold a special discussion on Beit Yehonatan this week.

A Need in Israel

Dear friends,
I received notice yesterday morning from Boaz Dreyer that the engine that was in his car is now on the ground. The used car was purchased several years ago through donations given to the MIA for Shefa and now needs a new engine. The estimated cost of repair is $1200. If you are led to give a special offering to fix the vehicle, Boaz and Rina would be very grateful. A car is essential to have as they live on a moshav that is about an hour’s drive from the nearest city (Be’er Sheva). As you know, the MIA considers Boaz and Rina Dreyer to be one of the anchors of our bridge to the Land. As always, whatever you give will be completely passed onto them.
If you are led to give please call our office to make the arrangements. Thank you.
